Chiropractic care serves to maintain the bones of the spine and joints in proper alignment, allowing full range of motion and proper nerve signal transmission.
Even a subtle change in alignment (subluxation) can affect the nervous system, local muscles, joints and even internal organ function by putting pressure on, or irritating spinal nerves. Chiropractic adjustment helps to maintain flexibility, relieve pain and improve nerve function, as well as preventing small problems from developing into larger issues. Since the nervous system controls and coordinates all the functions of your pet’s body, if there is interference with the signals traveling through the nerves, parts of their body will not get the proper nerve messages and will not be able to function at 100% of their innate abilities. Most animals accept both the exam and adjustment without signs of pain. When a painful area is found, Dr Mary uses the gentlest techniques to reduce pain before delivering an adjustment or postpones adjustment until your pet is more relaxed. Some pets react to these adjustments with a little surprise, but most are not troublesome to your pet. Many animals feel immediate improvement after a chiropractic adjustment, but there may be a 24-48 hour period of tiredness after treatment.
At ARF, we even have the option to perform chiropractic adjustments in the warm water of our therapy pool, thus allowing an even more gentle adjustment and increasing your pet’s relaxation. Some animals with intense, or chronic problems will need several treatments to maintain and reestablish normal function of the joints and nervous system.
